Bowerhill Primary School About Us

Our Vision & Values

At Bowerhill Primary School our vision is to enable ALL children to EXPERIENCE SUCCESS through BUILDING ASPIRATION within them. Equally as important, to BUILD ASPIRATION through the SUCCESS they EXPERIENCE… we want all children to experience just how far they can fly! We will do this through all the opportunities and curriculum we provide them with, the relationships we foster and through offering a safe and securing, caring environment to learn.

By SUCCESS and ASPIRATION we mean:

  • Live their lives by the values instilled in them at school
  • Fulfil their potential and realise the plans for their lives – academic, moral, emotional, spiritual, physical
  • Make good progress from their starting points… whatever they may be
  • Develop great learning skills for life and a deep and broad knowledge base
  • Be ready and well-prepared for their next steps in life
  • Have the highest aspirations for themselves and for others
  • Be confident communicators in a variety of contexts and for a range of purposes
  • Enjoy their own uniqueness and therefore have high self-esteem
  • Be independent in their learning
  • Be confident and happy young people that have a broad understanding and tolerance of the world and others around them
  • Have a strong sense of hope for their future
  • Have a life-long curiosity which gives confidence to ask big questions about the world

British Values

The aims outlined above incorporate and reflect the British values of tolerance, fairness, respect for other faiths, respect for rules, and the role of democracy in society.

Our school council will play a key role in promoting these values, alongside our PSHE and RE teaching which form a major part of social, moral, spiritual, and cultural education.

Promoting Our Values

The government defines British values as:

  • Democracy.
  • Rule of law.
  • Individual liberty.
  • Mutual respect.
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths.

At Bowerhill Primary School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches understanding, respect and empathy for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this is a range of curriculum topics that have strong links to the British Empire. We actively challenge children, staff, and parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.

As part of The White Horse Federation, we passionately believe that by working together, the children are able to have a higher quality of education, and that as colleagues, we will also benefit from and reap the rewards of a values-based organisation where no one is left behind.
