The Learning Challenge Curriculum — A Focused Approach to Topic Work

At Bowerhill Primary School, we use a topic study to link some subject areas in a way designed to ensure the children are interested in purposeful learning. The learning challenge curriculum is a natural development and improvement of this work.

We have worked with education consultants Focus Education to introduce the learning challenge curriculum. This is a way of organising the knowledge, skills, and areas of study in the national curriculum around a series of themed lessons or topics to capture the interests of the children and make the learning relevant to them.

The learning challenge concept is built around the principle of greater learner involvement in their work resulting in a meaningful curriculum which promotes high standards.

Focus Education

The learning challenge curriculum approach requires teachers to plan their topic study to meet the needs and interests of the children at our school. This will include allowing the children to direct the focus of a topic according to their interests.
