World Book Day 2022

4 March 2022
World Book Day 2022

This week, along with schools in more than 100 different countries around the world, we’ve been celebrating the 25th annual World Book Day!

At Bowerhill, we don’t think there’s almost anything more important than reading as part of a good education. World Book Day is an amazing opportunity for us to share new books with our pupils.

On World Book Day itself, the children and staff were invited to dress up as their favourite book character or author and we brought in our favourite books to share together.

On World Book Day we also kicked off our Sponsored Reading Challenge. We have done this for a few years running and it has been incredibly successful at motivating the children to read, share a love of reading across the school and earn the school lots of beautiful Usborne books.

Next week we are having West End Dance school in to run workshops with the children from Early Years to Year 6! This will be another great way to celebrate books but through dance and movement! We are very excited for this year's events.

Hannah Polan, our Reading Lead, said "World Book Day is one of my favourite days every year. To see the children and staff get so involved with dressing up as a favourite book character but also listen to them talk about books is always really inspiring! It is a great opportunity for everyone in the school community to share their joy and pleasure in reading."

Reading is not only important for learning, but is also a wonderful hobby. Helping pupils become lifelong learners is an important goal for The White Horse Federation and its schools, and we want our World Book Day celebrations to encourage all our pupils to get into the habit of opening up a book.
